About COSINES Pi VI

ORIGINS. COSINES Pi is an International Contest of Conference Interpreters. The acronym COSINES is formed from the constituent letters of the contest title. The Contest was founded and organized by Professor of Moscow State University Marklen Konurbaev in April 2017 and is now set to happen every year as a regular meeting point for conference interpreters and interpreting experts throughout the whole world.

GRASSROOTS. Originally, the Contest saw itself as ‘Mind Olympics’ where beginners and experienced interpreters could display their most surprising natural talents in meaning rendering and compete with their peers. COSINES Pi Jury are 70 acclaimed interpretation masters: members of interpreter associations (AIIC), interpreters for international organisations (UN, EU, European Court of Justice) and heads of states (Mikhail Gorbachev, Boris Yeltsin, Indira Gandhi and others).

MARKET. Over the last five years, 800+ interpreters from 30 countries have taken the test on the contest platform.

BENEFITS. The COSINES Pi prize is a proven mark of quality for both the professional community and employers. Participation in interpretation contest is a valuable indicator of your qualities in your engagements with employers, and recordings of your contest performance can replace a preliminary employment test or make up for a gap in work experience. TRAINING. We have amassed a unique collection of workshops and further improved it by adding university programmes that grant certificates of completion. The 2021 contestants were trained by the interpreter of Mikhail Gorbachev, a member of Vladimir Putin’s team of interpreters, top industry interpreters and trainers from leading linguistic schools.
